Finding Solutions that Work for You
As a psychotherapist, I understand that each preteen or adolescent is unique and requires solutions that best suit their temperament, personality, and ability. I can help clarify the confusion your son or daughter may be experiencing, and I can also identify supports and strategies that will best suit their personal needs  and aid in their individual success.

Why Psychotherapy?
Helping your son or daughter to better understand themselves–their thoughts, their feelings, and their choices–can be challenging. Psychotherapy that is uniquely tailored to the individual has been clinically studied and is proven to be successful. Psychotherapy is a licensed healthcare practice and is covered by many health insurance policies.

Taking the First Step
The first step is contacting me. During our initial phone contact, you and I will spend 10-15 minutes reviewing your son or daughter’s needs and your impressions of their experiences both at home and at school. During this first conversation, which is always free of charge, we can arrange a time to meet in my office for our initial session.

Getting Started
The first session takes place with the parent(s) and I, without the child present. As part of our initial session, you and I will discuss your son or daughter’s life and challenges in greater depth, we will determine the fee for psychotherapy sessions. At the end of the first session, we will schedule the second session, during which you will introduce me to your child and we will all be part of the meeting. At the end of the second session we will plan and schedule future sessions.

Working with Your Son or Daughter
Once therapy with your child begins, I will work with your son or daughter in an age appropriate manner and will focus on cultivating a positive therapeutic relationship with them. With preteens and adolescents, games, drawing, and other proven communication tools can enhance discussion. With safe and compassionate dialogue, your child and I will begin to explore the challenges that they face. I will work with your son or daughter to identify and help them to understand practical ways to make meaningful and lasting changes. With an emphasis on confidence building, I will identify specific ways for your son or daughter to implement changes that will be comfortable, practical, and realistic.
